Imagine you’re one of the top defensive players in the NFL, but your team doesn’t see it. That’s been the case with Micah Parsons and the Cowboys. The team has recently been confused about whether to trade or keep the LB. Typical Dallas things. Obviously, if they decide to keep him, it will cost them a good chunk of their money. I mean, an elite player needs that bag. But what about Parsons here? Is he demanding too much?
Micah Parsons’ trade could be one of the Cowboys’ biggest losses. They don’t have many outstanding players on their defense, and the LB is almost like a leader for the defensive line. His trade is equal to the collapse of their defense. And the team certainly knows all of this, so why would they want to trade him? Money? Well, maybe. In an interview, this doubt was also cleared. Micah was on USA Sports Today, and there he claimed that he wants the money he deserves. After all, the position of LB is only a tag for him, and he contributes significantly to the squad.

arsons explained how the highest paid player is just a word game made by the fans, “It’s just a terminology that people use, you know, to describe a player. I think how I look at it is like pay me to my value, like basketball, like pay me what I’m worth. Like I don’t want to be labeled as like a defensive because I do more than just play defense, I play all over, I feel like I help expand.”
So there you go. Now you know what’s behind the scenes at the Cowboys’ front office. After these comments, the picture of Micah Parsons’ contract becomes clearer. It is now certain that the LB’s management is attempting to get him a large contract if the team wishes to re-sign him. On the other side, the Cowboys want to free up some cap space before locking in the LB long term.
Now, this may be a win-win situation for both parties involved, and the fans. But the progress for this has not been up to the mark.
Micah Parsons’ contract extension may take some time as there is NO progress
At the age of 22, Parsons signed his rookie deal with the Dallas. I mean, we were all there, and there was a lot of excitement about the young LB. It happened in 2021, when the team offered a four-year contract worth $17.1 million plus a fifth-year option. Fast forward to 2025, and the team used their fifth-year option to keep the LB for the season and consider locking him in for the long term. By doing so, they ensured that fans remained on the edge of their seats for another year. Once again, it’s Jerry Jones being Jerry Jones. There’s never enough clarity for fans, and they’re always sitting at the edge of their seats in anticipation.
I mean, everyone knows only one man can be responsible for this waiting plan: Jerry Jones. The billionaire is known for creating a buzz around his athletes before handing them a lucrative deal. That’s what he did with Dak Prescott, and perhaps that’s what he’s planning to do with Parsons. And the kicker? Jones once clearly indicated in an interview that there are no trade conversations about Parsons. The GM stated that such discussions have “never been uttered in this organization.”
But Jones is not alone in this thought, even Parsons has said many times that Jones is like “my dog” and fans should “stop that Jerry Jones hate.” All this clearly shows that something big is coming up for the 27-year-old. But if we were to look at the latest update from Parsons around his contract talks, he stated in February that “there’s been no progress, but I’m pretty confident something will happen. We’ll see.”
