MINNEAPOLIS — The Vikings moved quickly to address a need before free agency begins on Wednesday.

The team has re-signed running back Aaron Jones to a two-year deal, the team announced Sunday.

According to Rapoport, the deal will pay Jones $20 million over two years, with $13 million guaranteed,, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Jones set a career high in rushing yards with the Vikings last year, with 1,138 on an efficient 4.5 yards per carry. He also reeled in 50 passes for 408 yards.

Jones finished the year with five rushing touchdowns and added two receiving scores.

He came to Minnesota after spending the first seven years of his career with the Vikings’ NFC North rival Green Bay Packers, and provided an instant boost to the team’s offense.

As questions swirl about who will lead the team under center, retaining Jones will provide a security blanket for the team’s quarterback for the upcoming season.
