Stephen Curry had an interesting offseason. He created a legacy moment in Paris while guiding Team USA to Olympic gold, he lost his backcourt running mate, Klay Thompson, and there was a couple of weeks’ stretch during which some people in the basketball world thought he wanted out of Golden State.
The greatest player in franchise history wanting to start over somewhere else was not a reality. The whole Curry trade rumor saga was way overblown, and the player himself never indicated that he was unhappy; it has actually been quite the opposite.
“It is no secret that it always has been and still is a goal of mine to be a Warrior for life and to stay competitive throughout that process. It is kind of unheard of, the short list of guys who have been in that position. Honestly the ability to let that be known with the extension and not let that be a distraction or talking point all year long no matter what happens throughout this season or next season (was a priority),” said Curry.
He has maintained all along that he wants to retire with the team that drafted him, and anytime Curry is asked about his situation, he has responded with the same sentiment. He wants to stay in Golden State, and he wants the team to continue competing for championships.
“All of my energy is spent on preparing myself to play at a very high level and do my part, and everything else will reveal itself as time goes on. I am very confident in the fact that being here and being a relevant team is possible,” said Curry.
The superstar player is under contract through the 2026-27 NBA season and unless the team becomes a bottom feeder by then, there is no reason to believe Curry will ever suit up for any other team other than the Golden State Warriors.
