Spencer Dinwiddie on why he would pick LeBron James over Michael Jordan in a Draft: “I need a guy that’s going to cover up for the most amount of mistakes”

Dinwiddie also saw how crazy LeBron’s work ethic was in his 21st NBA season.

Dallas Mavericks guard Spencer Dinwiddie thinks that Luka Doncic is the best player in the NBA right now. That did not come as a surprise because they are currently teammates in Dallas.

Regarding the greatest of all time, Dinwiddie believes that title belongs to his former Los Angeles Lakers teammate, LeBron James. It’s worth noting here that Spencer didn’t pick his GOAT based on championship rings or all-time stats. He approached the discussion from the point of view of building a team.

“If I’m drafting No.1 overall, I need a guy that’s going to cover up for the most amount of mistakes,” said Dinwiddie. “And I think he’s a guy that, especially prime, was so good at all these different things that you just cover up so much that could go wrong.”

From the point of view of team building

Mike is considered a better scorer than Bron; he also has a DPOY trophy, which LeBron has never won. Individually, you can argue that Michael Jordan is the better basketball player. However, King James’ versatility enables him to cover more ground and affect his team more than His Airness.

At 6’9″ and 250 pounds, LeBron is a point guard trapped in a power forward’s body. He can play multiple positions on offense and, at the same time, guard as many positions on the defensive end of the court.

“I think it’s about what you want and how you approach the game,” added Dinwiddie. “If you’re approaching the game like a cold-blooded scorer, well, it’s not him exactly, you know what I’m saying. But if you’re building a team, it’s hard not to pick him.”

Nobody works as hard as LeBron

When Dinwiddie played for the Lakers last season, he got the opportunity to play alongside LeBron. Although he played only 28 games in “Purple and Gold,” Spence realized something that made him even admire James more.

“He helped me refine my work ethic and other stuff on top of that. I pride myself on being an extremely hard worker…So I no slouch in terms of work ethic but like at 40 years old, to be that militant about it, it was like ‘Alright, you have my utmost respect,'” added Dinwiddie.

It would be unfair to say that Ohio native works harder than Mike or even Kobe because Spencer did not get a chance to play with either of them. Still, “King James'” maniacal work ethic is incredible, considering how he has been able to preserve his prime years up to the age of 40.
