Buffalo Bills employee 'Slick Rick' surprised with car following Josh Allen's viral MVP speech shoutout

The Buffalo Bills mailroom employee who was given a shoutout in Josh Allen’s NFL Most Valuable Player of the Year award acceptance speech was gifted a new vehicle on Friday.

It put a forever stamp on Roderick “Slick Rick” Morrow’s remarkable week.

Morrow was presented a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse by West Herr Automotive Group, which owns 40 car dealerships in western New York.

Allen received his first MVP award on Feb. 6, and while emphasizing his success in Buffalo took the entirety of the organization from the top down, the Bills quarterback name-dropped Morrow.

“It takes everybody from the equipment staff to the training room to the strength staff, to ‘Slick Rick’ in the mailroom to the cafeteria upstairs,” Allen said.

It took 3 to 5 business days for Morrow to rise to fame.

Morrow has been first class in interviews since he was mentioned in the same speech as general manager Brandon Beane, head coach Sean McDermott and Allen’s fiancee, Hailee Steinfeld.

His interview clips have been viewed millions of times on social media and he was featured on SportsCenter, with host Scott Van Pelt using Allen’s speech and a reminder to treat people with kindness and appreciation.

A sweet and teary-eyed Morrow recounted how he broke down crying when Allen mentioned him live on national television. He’s a low-key everyman who loves his job and loves the Bills.

Morrow has been taking the bus from his home in Buffalo to work in Orchard Park 15 miles away for 15 years and did not own a car. He grew up near the Bills’ old War Memorial Stadium.

Morrow thinks former quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick gave him the “Slick Rick” nickname.

Linebacker Tyrel Dodson, who played for the Bills from 2019 to 2023, showed his appreciation for Morrow on X.

“Slick Rick! Og!,” Dodson posted. “Helped me wrap Christmas presents and sent them off for me! Miss you slick!”

“I can’t believe it,” Morrow told WKBW after he was presented with the SUV. “I’m the type of person like ‘why me?’ This is unbelievable. I thank everybody. I’m just an average guy.

“I was blessed to get the job with the Bills. I just try not to miss no days of work and just be there and do what I’m supposed to do.”

Tuesday, Feb. 11: Slick Rick wins hearts on social media with interviews

Slick Rick got chocked up in an interview with Matthew Bove of WKBW.

“When I left work Thursday I said if Josh doesn’t get MVP I’m going to cry because he deserves it. He’s that important to our team,” Morro said. When I was watching the awards and went on stage and everything I was happy that he’d won it and it went from joyful to crying because when he mentioned my name I just broke down. I broke down because I’m just an average person. When he mentioned my name it was like ‘Oh, my God, he just mentioned my name on national television.’ I was just crying. Then I started getting phone calls from friends and I was crying on the phone to them. It’s still like a dream. I work here but I don’t like this publicity. I’m just down to earth.

Morrow was emotional telling his story to Andy Young of Spectrum News.

“When he said my name I couldn’t believe it,” Morrow said. “I hate to cry. I still don’t believe he said my name. I started crying and my son was in my room watching it and I started screaming ‘he said my name!'”
