‘Hot Seat’ Waiting for Bills Coach Sean McDermott?

Before Sean McDermott arrived in 2017, the Buffalo Bills were considered to be one of the worst franchises in the league. They held what was the longest active playoff drought in sports, and struggled to find the right quarterback to change life forever.

While Josh Allen’s work as the league MVP gets most of the credit, it’s McDermott’s system that first brought Buffalo to the playoffs a year before Allen was even in the league.

For that reality, McDermott will always be appreciated in Orchard Park.

Now, though, the expectations have changed in Western New York. And as the Bills continue to fall in heartbreaking fashion during the playoffs each year, McDermott’s status as the team’s head coach continues to get called into question.

Moe Moton of Bleacher Report made it clear Friday that if McDermott cannot find a way to get Buffalo to the playoffs, then he must be removed.

Even if it means putting him on the hot seat for 2025.

“McDermott is under contract through the 2027 campaign, and his team is one of the league’s best, ” Moton said. ” On his watch, the Bills have won five consecutive AFC East titles, but they haven’t advanced past the AFC Championship Game. He has to get past the Kansas City Chiefs soon, or the team may look for someone else to do it.”

It’s incredibly hard for anyone to see the Bills moving on from McDermott as a coach. He has been too consistent of a leader in order for that to happen. But playoff success matters. If he can’t get by Kansas City even once, then the team might be willing to look for others to try and get to that point as well.
