Dallas has a new superstar in town — and one of the city’s biggest basketball names is already rolling out the welcome mat.
Moments after Paige Bueckers was selected No. 1 overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2025 WNBA Draft on Monday night, Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis shared a heartfelt video message celebrating her arrival.
“What’s up, Paige? AD here from one first round, you know, overall pick to another,” Davis said. “I just wanna say congratulations. Welcome to Dallas. Can’t wait to get you here to support you, come to some games, and watch you do your thing. Congrats again. Enjoy the night.”

Bueckers, the UConn legend and former National Player of the Year, had long been considered the favorite to go No. 1 overall.
After an electrifying college career that included a return from ACL surgery and a dominant senior season, she now joins a Wings franchise looking to take the next step in the WNBA playoffs.
Davis, a former NBA champion and 10-time All-Star, was traded to the Mavericks earlier this season in a shocking deal that sent Luka Dončić to the Lakers — a move that stunned the basketball world and immediately reshaped both franchises.
For Davis, the message was both personal and symbolic — signaling the city’s growing investment in its women’s basketball scene.
Bueckers becomes the centerpiece of a Wings roster that already includes All-Star talent like Arike Ogunbowale.
Her arrival is expected to reshape the franchise’s trajectory — and with stars like AD backing her, the spotlight on Dallas just got a little brighter.
The Wings open their season in May, and it’s a safe bet Davis might be courtside when Bueckers makes her professional debut.
