49er Who Left for Pay Raise Already Facing Troubles With New Team

The former 49er Jaylon Moore might not start on his new team after leaving the Bay Area for a two-year deal.

The San Francisco 49ers saw several players leave in free agency on both sides of the ball, including veteran offensive lineman Jaylon Moore. Moore inked a two-year, $30 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in hopes of potentially being their starting left tackle.

San Fran fans wished Moore had stayed, especially with Aaron Banks leaving in free agency and joining the Green Bay Packers on a four-year, $77 million deal. However, it’s tough to turn down the opportunity to play with superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

That said, the former 49er likely wishes he had stayed in the Bay Area, as the latest news out of Kansas City doesn’t bode well for Moore.

According to Chiefs Blitz, ESPN’s Adam Teicher said on Sports Radio 810 WHB that the Chiefs view Moore as a Plan B at left tackle. Teicher added that if rookie Josh Simmons is ready to go, he’ll be starting at left tackle to begin the season.

It’s not shocking to see that the Chiefs would opt to start Simmons, whom they drafted at the end of the first round in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, if you are Moore, you likely didn’t expect to be a backup, which you was in San Francisco.

If that’s the case, Moore was better off staying in San Francisco and being the heir apparent behind Trent Williams, who has a potential out in his contract for 2026 and will become an unrestricted free agent in 2027.

The 27-year-old Moore started in five games last season (career-high) for an injured Williams, who missed the last seven games with an ankle injury. Even though its a small sample size, he played well for the 49ers.

The 6-foot-4, 311-pound offensive tackle posted a 73.1 pass blocking grade (42nd among 140 tackles) and a 70.1 run blocking grade (36th), per Pro Football Focus. He also only allowed one sack in 271 offensive snaps.

Nonetheless, we’ll see if the former 49er can make a strong push to win the starting spot over the rookie because right now its not looking good.
