A lot of friends love getting matching tattoos to celebrate their close relationship. For some design is key, but for others it’s about permanence.

Often, it’s a combination of the two – as friends all want to find a special way to celebrate their relationship.

But one woman was shocked after receiving a design that wasn’t what she expected. Instead of the sweet butterfly, the tattoo looks like something much more primitive. The woman after seeing the tattoo brought her to tears.

Posting on TikTok as @lanicole001, Alaina Nicole shared a video of her tattoo with the caption: “When you try to get cute matching tattoos and you get two lame things instead you get two lame things. !”.

The clip shows Alaina burst into tears before revealing the tattoo on her arm. She also posed for a photo of the design next to her friend, as she has a matching butterfly on her arm.

And it’s hard to disagree with TikToker ‘s interpretation , as the comments left on the video demonstrate.

People were shocked when they saw the design, with many trying to believe that the tattoo artist couldn’t see the rude resemblance. One said: “The tattoo ‘artist’ knows what they’re doing.”

However, people later said the same about Alaina, after she shared a follow-up video demonstrating what she hoped the tattoo would look like.

In the clip, two friends with the same design can be seen placed on their fingers. As such, the two tattoos mirror each other in a way that the woman and her friend do not.

“I mean me or is it exactly the same?” asked one confused commenter.

One agreed: “I mean, that’s what you get.”

Others suggested that it was the different placement that made the woman’s tattoo look different from the one in her inspirational photo.

Another thought: “I think that’s the position. It should be on your finger, not your arm.”

Thankfully, everyone agreed that the woman and her friend could “fix” their tattoos.

“What if you each completed the other half then color in the opposite halves? That could be a potential fix,” one person commented.
