Turkey Run State Park is easily one of the most beautiful state parks in Indiana; it’s also one of the most popular with nature fanatics, considering it’s filled end to end with some of the most pristine natural beauty the Hoosier State has to offer. But all too many Hoosiers somehow don’t know that tucked above Turkey Run State Park in the northernmost bit of the park is a nature preserve that takes the outrageous beauty of Turkey Run and cranks it up to 11. It’s the Rocky Hollow – Falls Canyon Nature Preserve, and it’s easily one of the most majestic hidden gems in Indiana (hidden in plain sight).
You’ll find numerous stunning trails that weave right through it, offering awe-inspiring sightseeing like nothing else can in this little corner of the world.
Here, you’ll find almost alien landscapes filled to the brim with stunning natural wonder; you’ll want to take a few moments to really absorb it all. After all, you don’t see nature like this every day.
During the spring and summer months, the canyon is outrageously green. The flora is vibrant and alive, giving this place a feeling like somewhere out of Middle Earth (not Indiana).
Seriously, ask someone who’s never been here (or, alternatively, someone who’s spent entirely too much time here without exploring) what Indiana is like. They’ll likely tell you it’s flat, full of corn fields, and quite boring.
Indiana is a nature lover’s paradise; it’s a dream come true for those of us who like to explore and admire the world we’re surrounded by. The Rocky Hollow – Falls Canyon Nature Preserve is an amazing example of this, offering up breathtaking views and a whole new appreciation of our beautiful state.
It’s one of our best-kept secrets, but we think it’s about time the secret gets out.
