Here’s this week’s rumor mill.
Rumor: Caleb Williams wanted to play for the Vikings during the lead-up to the 2024 NFL Draft.
Yes, that’s right. Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams preferred the Vikings as his NFL destination in April 2024, according to a new book.
An ESPN article claimed this week: “After an up-and-down final season at USC, Caleb Williams was unsure of what he wanted to do as he prepared for the 2024 draft. At the NFL combine that year, he met with Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell. The two hit it off, and Caleb Williams began to dream of what it would be like to play for Minnesota.”Dustin Baker’s Offseason Endorsement for the Vikings
Williams allegedly told his father, “I need to go to the Vikings.”
“Let’s do it,” his father responded.

ESPN also noted: “”Quarterback Caleb Williams was so concerned about being picked by the Chicago Bears in 2024 that he and his family weighed circumventing the entire NFL draft, consulting with lawyers to figure out a way around the league’s collective bargaining agreement while considering signing with the United Football League, details from a forthcoming book reveal.”
“The forthcoming book, to be published in September, offers a detailed account of what it means to be a quarterback at various levels, from high school to college to the NFL, and what it’s like for legends in retirement.”
The report doesn’t shine favorably on the Bears, but it’s worth noting that Chicago recently hired a new head coach in Ben Johnson. This book’s findings may be irrelevant now.
ESPN added, “It features unprecedented access with dozens of quarterbacks and generational greats such as John Elway, Johnny Unitas, Warren Moon, members of the Manning family and Steve Young, among others. It also includes current signal-callers such as Kirk Cousins and Drake Maye.”
“Additionally, there are new details inside the ruthless recruitment of Texas quarterback Arch Manning, and the youth quarterback circuit. It also chronicles LSU quarterback Colin Hurley’s near-death car wreck in January and subsequent full recovery. Wickersham is an ESPN reporter; his first book on the New England Patriots was a New York Times bestseller. This book offers an inside look at Williams’ state of mind.”
Add Williams to the list of quarterbacks who want to play with quarterback-whispering head coach Kevin O’Connell.
Rumor: Kay Adams claims the Vikings can win the Super Bowl this year.
“I think they’re gonna win the Super Bowl,” Adams told former NFL quarterback Chris Simms this week.
Adams also mentioned J.J. McCarthy, “I met him and, just like a total fan, just fell for him. I met him down in Mayakoba at the NFLPA Classic, and I go ‘oh, you are a winner.’ And just how Case Keenum was talking about him, how Harrison Smith was talking about him. The OGs. Adam Thielen, the way he was speaking to me. I bought every stock.”
Adams’ declaration marks the most vocal Super Bowl prediction in favor of the Vikings in years.
Rumor: Max Brosmer could snag the Vikings’ QB3 job over Brett Rypien
FantasyLife‘s Thor Nystrom recently hinted that undrafted free-agent quarterback Max Brosmer could earn a roster spot with the Vikings as the QB3.

He wrote, “This is the third consecutive year that the Vikings have finished top 5 in my UDFA rankings. GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has clearly prioritized this phase of the process. Over the past three years, six UDFAs have made the Vikings’ Week 1 roster: Ryan Wright, Ivan Pace Jr., Gabriel Murphy, Taki Taimani, Bo Richter, and Dwight McGlothern.”
“This time around, the Vikings had a built-in advantage to make their argument to agents. Minnesota used a tied-for-league-low five draft picks while spending the second-least draft equity (ahead of only the Rams, who traded their R1 pick).”
Most expect Brett Rypien to win the post.
But remember Nystrom’s take in case Brosmer scores the upset.
