Vikings HOF’er Jared Allen Just Said He Would Take Aaron Rodgers Over Sam Darnold Next Season for Minnesota, via the Up and Adams Show. Would You???
Minnesota Vikings legend Jared Allen has never been one to hold back his opinions, and his latest take is stirring up debate among fans. Appearing on the Up and Adams Show, Allen made it clear that if he had to choose between Aaron Rodgers and Sam Darnold as the Vikings’ quarterback next season, he would go with Rodgers.
At first glance, this might seem like a no-brainer. Rodgers, a four-time MVP and future Hall of Famer, has a resume that dwarfs Darnold’s. Even at 40 years old and coming off a torn Achilles, Rodgers still carries an aura of greatness, while Darnold—who has struggled for consistency in his career—remains an unproven commodity as a starter.
The Case for Aaron Rodgers
Rodgers’ talent is undeniable. He’s one of the most efficient passers in NFL history, and if he can stay healthy, he could instantly elevate the Vikings’ offense. Pairing him with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson would be an exciting proposition. His leadership, experience, and ability to read defenses would provide a level of stability that the team may not get with Darnold.
The Case for Sam Darnold
On the other hand, Darnold is younger (26) and wouldn’t cost nearly as much. While he hasn’t lived up to his draft billing, some believe he could thrive in Kevin O’Connell’s system. If the Vikings want to build for the future, developing Darnold might be a smarter long-term investment.
Would You Take Rodgers Over Darnold?
It ultimately depends on what the Vikings prioritize. If they believe they’re a quarterback away from contending and Rodgers can still play at a high level, it makes sense to take the risk. But if they want a younger, cheaper option with potential upside, Darnold could be the better bet.
What do you think, Vikings fans? Would you roll the dice on Rodgers, or give Darnold a shot?
