Tom Brady hails Baker Mayfield play ‘one of the best ever’

Mayfield finished Buccaneers’ Week 10 clash against the 49ers with 116 yards and a single touchdown

Tom Brady, renowned for delivering some of the most iconic quarterback moments in NFL history, had high praise for Baker Mayfield following the Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ Week 10 clash against the San Francisco 49ers.

Brady, now an analyst for Fox Sports, witnessed a jaw-dropping play by Mayfield late in the game, calling it one of the greatest quarterback feats he’s ever seen.

The Sunday showdown at Raymond James Stadium had plenty of drama. With the Buccaneers trailing 20-17 and less than two minutes remaining, Mayfield found himself in a do-or-die situation.

Facing 4th-and-7 from their own 37-yard line, the quarterback managed to pull off an extraordinary play that left fans-and the commentators-stunned.

Mayfield’s Incredible Escape

As the 49ers‘ formidable defensive lineman Nick Bosa closed in on Mayfield, grabbing hold of his left arm, the play seemed doomed.

But Mayfield defied the odds, delivering a stiff-arm to the All-Pro edge rusher and somehow managing to complete a pass to running back Rachaad White for a crucial first down. It was a moment that defied logic and kept the Buccaneers‘ hopes alive.

Brady, who was calling the game alongside Kevin Burkhardt, couldn’t hide his astonishment.

“That’s one of the best plays I’ve ever seen a quarterback make,” Brady declared. Burkhardt agreed, describing it as “one of the best plays of the year.”

The compliment carried extra significance considering Brady and Mayfield had previously exchanged public barbs. This moment, however, demonstrated Brady‘s respect for exceptional talent on the field.

Purdy Shines While Mayfield Struggles

Despite Mayfield‘s heroic effort, the night ultimately belonged to the 49ers‘ young quarterback, Brock Purdy.

While Mayfield finished the game with 116 yards on 18 of 29 passing and a single touchdown, Purdy dazzled with 353 yards, completing 25 of 36 passes and throwing two touchdowns. His consistent performance kept San Francisco in control for most of the game.

Mayfield‘s miraculous first-down conversion helped set up a game-tying field goal, but Purdy responded with a composed drive that culminated in a game-winning field goal, sealing the 49ers’ 23-20 victory as the clock expired.

Brady‘s praise highlights the unique brilliance of Mayfield‘s play, a testament to his resilience and ability to deliver under pressure. For a quarterback often scrutinized for his inconsistencies, this moment stood out as a reminder of his potential.

Though Mayfield and the Buccaneers couldn’t secure the win, his extraordinary effort earned respect from one of football’s all-time greats.

As Brady noted, moments like these define the magic of football, proving that even in defeat, a single play can capture the imagination of fans and players alike.
