Tom Brady’s New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammate Antonio Brown has accused the legendary quarterback of dumping him after the pair enjoyed a 2020 Super Bowl win
Antonio Brown says that Tom Brady dumped him after their 2020 Super Bowl win with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The two NFL superstars played together at the New England Patriots in 2019 before making the move to the Floridian outfit the following year under Bruce Adrians. And Brady and Brown played a superb game in the Super Bowl LV final that season against the Kansas City Chiefs to lift the Vince Lombardi trophy.
Brown managed five receptions for 22 yards, including a one-yard reception from Brady with just six seconds left to play in the first half which led to a touchdown. Meanwhile, Brady threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns as the Buccaneers reigned supreme over the Chiefs in a one-sided 31-9 win.
Brady was also named as the game’s MVP while claiming his record seventh Super Bowl win. However, the good times between Brown and Brady didn’t last long, with the 36-year-old wide receiver claiming that Brady completely phased him out shortly after the victory.
He explained: “How it ended, I feel like he didn’t really have my back. To call somebody to come play and dictate their salary. Giving them the agent, the people to put you in a position and then you don’t follow through. They put you in a position then you win a Super Bowl then he kinda dumped me.”
He then claimed: “My agent, Ed Wasielewski, is getting called, cursed out by Tom Brady over ‘Why is he pushing back for the contract for scraps?’ Imagine if you heard that, the same guy that brought you in to win a ring, the same agent he told you to hook up with to get the deal, is now telling me, the guy’s calling him … cursing him out about scraps of a contract.”
Brown ended up signing a one-year deal with the Buccaneers, playing just seven games of the 2021 season before retiring with 928 receptions, 12,291 receiving yards, and 83 receiving touchdowns to his name. The 2020 victory at LV was the only Super Bowl that Brown won in his entire career.
Brady, meanwhile stayed with the Buccaneers until the end of the 2022 season, announcing in February 2023 that he was retiring “for good” before filing his papers with the NFL and the NFLPA. He will be eligible to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as of 2028.
Brady enjoyed an illustrious 19-year career with the New England Patriots between 2000 and 2019, racking up three NFL Most Valuable Player awards, two Offensive Player of the Year accolades, six Super Bowls and four Super Bowl MVPs. He finally called time on an incredibly 22 year career last year, with 12,050 passing attempts, 7,753 completions, 89,214 passing yards and a 64.3 per cent completion record to his name.
