DraftKings lists Cowboys OC Brian Schottenheimer as the favorite for head coach despite no formal interview with the team.
Several names have been swirling in the rumor mill as the Dallas Cowboys search for their next head coach, but Vegas has already chosen their favorite.
DraftKings listed Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer as the betting favorite by far. The Schottenheimer pick is favored at -250 odds. Kellen Moore, who was previously the favorite, dropped down to +250 odds.
So why is Schottenheimer favored? Sportsbooks don’t have any insider information, and odds are generally set based on the bets placed. So far, Schottenheimer hasn’t even been formally interviewed by the Cowboys.
Schottenheimer has been in Dallas for two seasons, but he’s been an offensive coordinator in the NFL since 2006. Despite his nearly 20-year tenure as an OC, he’s never been a head coach. Even as Dallas’ OC, he was never the primary play-caller with Mike McCarthy at the helm.
Schottenheimer would be a surprising pick due to his lack of experience as a head coach, and based on social media reaction, his name doesn’t seem to illicit excitement among fans.
Even if Schottenheimer is the betting favorite, there’s no telling if he’s Jerry Jones’ favorite.
