The return of Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy now has an official date

The number one thing that Vikings fans are looking forward to is the return of quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

We have suffered through seemingly endless debates about keeping quarterback Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones with a smooth transition to bringing in Aaron Rodgers. All we wanted was clarity at the position, but we still don’t “officially” have it.

For the time being, McCarthy is going to be the guy for the Vikings going into the 2025 season and that is a very exciting thing.

Vikings’ off-season dates signal the return of J.J. McCarthy

After using his entire rookie offseason to work on the mechanics and learn how to handle the National Football League, this offseason is more about growth than adjusting the process. McCarthy told us during his appearance on Up and Adams at the NFLPA golf tournament in Mexico that he’s at 100%.

“I would say I’m 100% but, you know, thank you. Cheers to that. But, yeah, just staying consistent with the rehab process and not wavering from that, and just staying disciplined with all the outside stuff and making sure, you know, I’m not chopping too much wood and doing all that fun stuff.”

The Vikings are looking forward to having McCarthy back and his likely return to the field has been announced, as the NFL has announced the offseason calendar for all 32 teams.

  • First Day of Organized Team Activities: April 21st
  • OTA Offseason Workouts: May 27-28, May 30, June 2-3, June 5, June 16-18
  • Mandatory Minicamp: June 10-12

The first phase of OTAs is just workouts. You don’t get on the practice field until the second phase begins. The first time we will see the return of McCarthy is on Tuesday, May 27th when they get on the field. It’s a small step toward playing in a regular season game, but you have to start somewhere.

The McCarthy era is ready to begin.
