The real reason why Jerry Jones got rid of Mike McCarthy in Dallas

To many it was not a surprise that the Dallas Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy parted ways after five seasons due to a contract dispute. Now we know the real reason why they could not reach an agreement for him to stay, even though there was mutual interest in continuing the relationship.

Mike McCarthy durnig a press conference after an NFL game.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys, offered McCarthy a 3-year deal, while McCarthy was seeking a 5-year extension. Nobody ever thought that the owner and general manager of the team actually offered a contract.

Despite both sides expressing a desire to continue their partnership, the inability to agree on the contract led to McCarthy’s departure. McCarthy, who finished his tenure with a 49-35 record, was unable to lead the Cowboys past the divisional round of the playoffs.

The decision to move on from him

Jerry Jones ultimately decided to promote offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to the head coaching position, signing him to a 4-year deal. McCarthy, on the other hand, has decided not to pursue any head coaching roles for the upcoming 2025 season.

The decision has left Cowboys fans and the football community speculating about the future of the team. While some believe Jones made the right call by sticking to a shorter deal, others feel that McCarthy deserved more security given his contributions to the team.

As the Cowboys move forward with Schottenheimer at the helm, all eyes will be on how the team performs in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, McCarthy’s future in the NFL remains uncertain, with only the New Orleans Saints’ head coaching position still vacant and his zero interest in it.

With Super Bowl LIX just around the corner, the football world is buzzing with predictions about the high-stakes showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. As the Eagles look to avenge their Super Bowl LVII loss to Kansas City, the Chiefs have their sights set on an unprecedented three-peat, a feat never accomplished in NFL history.

Despite oddsmakers setting the Chiefs as slight favorites at 1.5 points, the game is expected to be a razor-thin contest. But one star player has no doubts about who will come out on top.

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons made his Super Bowl pick crystal clear this week, throwing his full support behind the Chiefs while taking an apparent jab at the Eagles. Speaking on The Edge with Micah Parsons, the All-Pro defender dismissed any notion that Philadelphia could get the job done.

“I got the Chiefs,” Parsons declared during an interview with Falcons running back Bijan Robinson. “I said the same thing two years ago, I took the Chiefs again. I’m always gonna take the Chiefs because coaching beats talent. The Eagles are as talented as the 49ers last year. I’m taking Chiefs. The one thing about the Chiefs is they always find a way.”

Parsons took a jab at Philly fans

Parsons’ unwavering belief in Kansas City might not sit well with Eagles fans, but his reasoning is clear-he values coaching over raw talent. However, his stance isn’t entirely surprising. As a Cowboys star, his disdain for the Eagles runs deep, making his confidence in a Chiefs victory all the more pointed.

Two years ago, Parsons correctly picked Kansas City to win it all, and now he’s doubling down. With history on the line and tensions at an all-time high, his comments are sure to add fuel to the already fiery rivalry between Dallas and Philadelphia.
