The living legend of the Golden State Warriors joins LeBron James and Kevin Durant as players interested in remaining connected to the best league in the world once retired
Stephen Curry, four-time NBA champion and undisputed figure of the Golden State Warriors, is already planning his life after basketball. At 36 years old, Curry has had a successful career in the NBA, but he has also established a significant presence off the court. In a recent interview with CNBC, Curry talked about his future plans, highlighting his interest in owning an NBA team, following in the footsteps of legends like Michael Jordan.
Curry has diversified his interests with various ventures, including his media company, Unanimous Media, and a junior golf tour named Underrated. These projects reflect his desire to make an impact in different areas beyond basketball. “For me, owning a team is definitely on the table. I think I could do a good job helping to maintain how great the NBA is right now and what it takes to run a championship organization,” Curry stated during the interview.
Curry’s current contract, which he recently signed a one-year extension for $62.6 million, will keep him with the Warriors until 2027, when he will be 39 years old. Despite his focus on the future, Curry made it clear that he still has a lot to achieve on the court before taking on other roles within the league. “I know I have a lot more to accomplish on the court before transitioning into other roles in the league,” said Curry, reaffirming his commitment to basketball.
Curry Has the Best Example at Home
Curry’s inspiration for team ownership also comes from observing how Joe Lacob and Peter Guber, the owners of the Warriors, have managed the organization. “The investment needed to create that first-class experience, to make us feel cared for, allows us to play at a high level,” commented Curry, highlighting the importance of exemplary management for a team’s success. With the possible expansion of the NBA in the coming years, Curry emerges as one of the stars who could make the leap from player to owner, adding another chapter to his impressive career.
