One idea for the New York Jets’ future coaching staff appears to be off the table.
The Jets have interviewed McCown for their vacant head coach position. He’s currently the QB coach with the Minnesota Vikings.
Brian Flores, the defensive coordinator for the Vikings, has also spoke to New York in their long list of candidates.
Flores has more coaching experience. He was previously a head coach with the Miami Dolphins.
Some observers of the Jets believed there could be a chance Flores might take over a team as head coach of a team, such as the Jets, and bring McCown on board as offensive coordinator. It is a promotion from QB coach, after all.
Not so fast.
Those hoping for the Jets to hire Flores and see him bring on McCown, a former Jets player, as OC, won’t get their wish.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on the “Pat McAfee Show” that this is not an option in McCown’s mind. Reportedly, if McCown is not hired as a head coach, he’ll stay in Minnesota.
McCown over saw the emergence of former Jets turned Vikings’ starting QB, Sam Darnold, over the past year. He’ll want to keep doing that, evidently.
The full report can be found in the clip below:
Adam Schefter on Josh McCown’s coaching future, as said on Friday’s “The Pat McAfee Show”:
“Josh McCown is going to be in Minnesota next year unless he gets a head coaching job.”
Does this change anything for the New York Jets’ current HC search?
