Latest Minnesota Vikings update could mean Aaron Rodgers is one step farther away to fulfilling the Brett Favre prophecy

The Minnesota Vikings didn’t start out the most active in free agency, but they certainly came to life on Tuesday morning, agreeing to terms on contracts with right guard Will Fries and defensive linemen Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave on contracts.

Bringing those players in was a key part of the strategy to fix the trenches, which was the biggest factor of the Vikings’ failures in the playoffs. With those elements addressed in a major way, all eyes turn to what the Vikings will do at quarterback.

Aaron Rodgers unlikely to come to Minnesota

When Daniel Jones decided to leave the Vikings and agree to terms with the Indianapolis Colts, it kept a big hole on the roster at backup quarterback.

There has been an insane amount of speculation surrounding the Vikings and Aaron Rodgers fulfilling the Brett Favre prophecy and this tweet from Mike Silver raised many eyebrows.

First off, of course head coach Kevin O’Connell has the most say with quarterback decisions. He’s the head coach and an offensive guru. Who else would have the most say? It’s a nothing burger, but it led to increased speculation about Rodgers because everything does at this point, especially the phrasing of “very interesting conversations taking place right now.

While appearing on NFL Network, Tom Pelissero gave an update on Rodgers potentially coming to Minnesota and it’s good or bad depending on what your desired outcome is.

“I would anticipate they will continue to pursue a veteran, but this would be a backup situation. I do not expect it to be Aaron Rodgers. Look for J.J. McCarthy, barring something unforeseen, to be the Vikings starting quarterback in 2025.”

Bringing in Rodgers would be quite the swing for the Vikings, especially coming off of the year he just had with the New York Jets. It would be a very Dennis Green-esque move to pull off signing him, which is why Vikings fans give it so much credence.

The reality is that McCarthy is almost certainly the guy next year and that’s a good thing, especially with the roster that Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has built.
