Justin Jefferson Doesn’t Care Who’s Throwing Him the Ball, Promises To Make Them Look Elite

Justin Jefferson doesn’t care who’s throwing him the ball. He’s said it before, and he said it again on The Pat McAfee Show—whoever the Minnesota Vikings put under center in 2025, he’ll do what he does best.

“I’m not sure who the quarterback is gonna be, and just like I said last year, it truly doesn’t matter personally, to me,” Jefferson said Monday. “It doesn’t matter who’s gonna throw me that ball. I’m gonna make the most of my opportunities. I’m gonna try to make him look [like] the best quarterback in the whole NFL.”

That’s not confidence. That’s just reality. Jefferson has put up elite numbers no matter who’s throwing him the ball. Kirk Cousins, Sean Mannion, Josh Dobbs, Nick Mullens, Jaren Hall, Sam Darnold—it doesn’t matter. He adjusts. He makes tough catches look easy. He gets open. And he produces.

The Vikings still haven’t locked in their 2025 starter. Darnold, who stepped in last season, will hit free agency on March 12 if a deal isn’t made. J.J. McCarthy, their rookie first-round pick, sat out his entire first season with a knee injury. There’s also the possibility of bringing in another veteran or even drafting someone new.

But Jefferson? He’s not sweating it.

The Vikings have less than a week to figure out if Sam Darnold stays. The franchise tag deadline is 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday. If they don’t use it, they’ll have until March 10 to negotiate exclusively before the rest of the league can start making offers.

Bringing Darnold back doesn’t guarantee he’s the starter. J.J. McCarthy has made it clear he expects a fair competition for the job. If Darnold re-signs, it’ll likely be on a short-term deal—nothing that cements him as the guy long-term. And then there’s the wild card: Minnesota could still look at other options, whether it’s another free agent or even a rookie quarterback in the draft.

Jefferson, though, isn’t losing sleep over it. He’s already built a career catching passes from a revolving door of quarterbacks. He’s about to enter Year 6, and he’s still putting up numbers that keep him in the conversation for the best receiver in the league.

Pat McAfee even called it out—Jefferson is one of the few superstar receivers who doesn’t have diva energy. His response?

“I just always grew up with my parents telling me to be humble and to be grateful for anything I’ve been given, and I’ve been given an opportunity to play football at the highest level,” Jefferson said. “I’m just making money to help my family and generations down the line. So, every single time I step foot on a field, I just like to have fun.”

That’s why he doesn’t need to be loud about it. He doesn’t need drama. His work speaks for itself.

“Waking up and being excited to go out there and ball, just putting on a show in front of the whole world. I just love playing the game of football, I love competing with my teammates, winning games, and hopefully—of course—one day holding up that trophy,” he said. “And then, of course, at the end of it all, when it’s all said and done, having that gold jacket around my back. That’s always something I dream about and carry with me.”

He’s not out here making demands. He’s just putting up numbers, season after season, no matter who’s throwing him the ball. And in 2025, whoever it is under center? They’ll be lucky to have him.
