Jason Witten’s son takes another step toward an elite college football program as Dallas Cowboys legend’s legacy continues

It’s no secret the Witten name isn’t going away anytime soon in the world of football.

Jason Witten, the former Dallas Cowboys tight end who’s undoubtedly heading to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, is still coaching at the high school level. However, it’s his son, Cooper, who’s stealing the spotlight little by little.

Cooper Witten, who plays at Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas, is slowly but surely solidifying himself as a blue chip recruit of the 2027 class.

Though his father and head coach played tight end for 17 years at the NFL level, Cooper has become a player to watch on defense. At 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, he’s ranked as the No. 1 safety of his class by 247 Sports Composite. He’s also the No. 24 overall player.

Well, Witten has received his latest college football offer and it’s from none other than the reigning, defending National Champions: The Ohio State Buckeyes.

According to A to Z Sports’ Ohio State expert Brandon Little, the Buckeyes have been targeting Witten for some time now.

Already having north of 20 offers, Witten has programs like Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, and Michigan chasing for his commitment in the 2027 class. Jason was a member of the Vols himself, so many believe they could be a factor in this. Texas has not offered yet, but his home-state school will be a factor at some point too.

Witten will be another name worth keeping an eye on. It is interesting that he is a stud defensive recruit, while his dad was one of the better tight ends to play the game. There is a long way to go in the class of 2027, but Witten is going to be a popular name all cycle. – Brandon Little

Though Ohio State is nowhere near the first offer Witten has received, the champions are arguably the highest-profile one yet. It’s also one that, if accepted in the future, would ensure Dallas Cowboys fans get to watch him closely on national TV on a weekly basis.

Jason Witten’s playing days may be over but his legacy continues to grow through his family and coaching. And to be honest, that’s something every Cowboys fan should enjoy. Though I’m sure plenty of them are hoping Cooper stays in Texas.
