Tom Brady might be frustrated with the Dallas Cowboys, but he was indeed impressed by the team’s placekicker Brandon Aubrey. The FOX Sports analyst showered high praise on the star player by comparing him to the Olympic legend Stephen Curry but in terms of kicking.

Since being drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, Aubrey has been an integral part of the Cowboys’ strong offensive line. He entered this week’s game against the Baltimore Ravens with a record of making 44 out of his 46 field goal attempts. While the entire team struggled, giving the opponents a lead of 14-3, Aubrey’s field goal was the only point the Cowboys recorded in the first quarter.

In the first quarter, the former USFL standout player nailed a 65-yard field goal, which was a mere yard behind the NFL field-goal record of 66-yard set by Justin Tucker. Before half-time, he scored another long field goal of 51 yards. Seeing the tremendous play by the second-year kicker, Brady sitting in the Fox Sports booth, showered him with high praises.

Hard to imagine the thought of attempting those. He just bangs—what a leg obviously. The accuracy. He’s just, we talked about him before, he’s like the Steph Curry of kickers. There’s no range that’s too far.

Tom Brady said

Brady claimed that during his prolonged career playing in the NFL, a 52-yard mark field goal was considered a distinction. But in the times when kickers are making long field goals, a second-year kicker recorded the second-largest field goal in NFL history.

How did Brandon Aubrey land in Dallas?

The Cowboys placekicker’s journey till the NFL has been quite interesting as he never initially thought of playing in the league. He began his career in sports as a soccer player for Notre Dame, where he recorded 15 goals in the 76 games he played. After being selected by Major League Soccer Club Toronto FC in 2017, Aubrey didn’t get the chance to play.

The only games he was tested as a professional soccer player were with the USL Championship for the Philidelphia Union affiliate Bethlehem Steel and Toronto FC II. Before trying out football, he also worked as a software engineer but finally found his calling in USFL with the Birmingham Stallions in 2022.

The USFL then merged with XFL and formed UFL Spring League. Placekicker Aubrey wowed the NFL scouts after being named to the 2022 All-USFL team and winning two USFL championships.
