The San Francisco 49ers have suffered a bunch of losses already this offseason, many of which have been self-imposed. Among the players who have been exiled by the Los Angeles Rams’ rival is fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who was cut as cap casualty.
Juszczyk had been with the 49ers for the last eight years and is a nine-time Pro Bowler with one first-team All-Pro selection. He’s been one of the best fullbacks in the NFL throughout his career and now he’s a free agent.
Maurice Jones-Drew, a former All-Pro himself, wants the Rams to sign Juszczyk. He lobbied for the move in an Instagram comment on Adam Schefter’s post about Juszczyk visiting the Steelers, writing that “it makes sense.”
Jones-Drew is a color analyst for the Rams so he has close ties to the team, understanding where their roster holes are and what they can improve on. Sean McVay has never used a traditional fullback in his offense but it would be an interesting wrinkle.
Juszczyk is a good blocker and a versatile receiver who can catch passes out of the backfield, either on checkdowns or wheel routes. The Rams don’t have a go-to receiving back on third downs so perhaps Juszczyk could fill that void.
Still, it’s hard to see them making this move – even out of spite of their rivals.
