Dallas Cowboys to trade CB Nahshon Wright to the Minnesota Vikings, per source

The Dallas Cowboys are finalizing a trade to send cornerback Nahshon Wright to the Minnesota Vikings on Friday, a source confirmed to Lone Star Live.

Vikings CB Andrew Booth is heading back to Dallas, per NFL Network. The Vikings originally drafted Booth in the second round in 2022. Booth started two games in two seasons with Minnesota, finishing his Vikings career with 20 tackles and one pass defended.

Booth made his first career start against Dallas in 2022. He allowed seven catches on eight targets for 85 yards, per Pro Football Focus.

The deal is pending physicals completed by both Wright and Booth.

The Cowboys originally selected Wright in the third round out of Oregon State in 2021.

Wright was absence from Cowboys practice on Friday.

Wright struggled to find the field during his tenure with Dallas. He played just over 350 defensive snaps in three seasons combined. He finished his Cowboys career with 37 total tackles, five pass breakups and one interception.

This figured to be an important training camp for Wright. He’s scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

The 6-foot-4 corner always offered unique potential with his length, but he lacked consistency as a cover corner. He never had a coverage grade higher than 63.7 in a season, according to Pro Football Focus.

Now Wright will get a fresh start with the Vikings.

Wright was competing for an outside corner spot behind starters Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland. His departure could mean the Cowboys feel comfortable with others already inside the building, including rookie fifth round pick Caelen Carson.

“He’s had flash plays every single day,” Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said earlier in camp.

That continued for Carson during Thursday’s joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams. He made an impressive interception in a redzone period against Rams quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

“Once again, I want to tip my hat to Will McClay and the scouting department,” defensive backs coach Al Harris said about Carson earlier in camp, “but I knew coming in this kid would be raw, but extremely talented. He’s done a great job picking up the coaching points.”
