Dallas Cowboys lose cornerback Trevon Diggs to knee injury

The Dallas Cowboys’ practice report showed cornerback Trevon Diggs as a limited participant on Wednesday and Thursday and a non-participant on Friday. The NFL team listed him as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. But on Saturday, Diggs’ status changed to out.

And according to reports by ESPN, NFL Network and the Dallas Morning News, Diggs will miss all four of the games remaining on the Cowboys’ regular-season schedule because of a knee injury.

Diggs also was listed as questionable for Dallas’ previous game, but he played all 71 of the Cowboys’ defensive snaps in a 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night.

Diggs had missed Dallas’ previous two games because of knee and groin injuries.

The reports indicated Diggs is headed toward surgery on his left knee.

Diggs spoke with reporters on Thursday without mentioning the possibility of missing Sunday’s game or the rest of the season.

“I felt OK just dealing with the same issues that I was before,” Diggs said about playing on Monday night, “but other than that, I was just fighting through it and pushing.”

A second-round draft choice from Alabama in 2020, Diggs was a Pro Bowler in 2021 and 2022 and a first-team All-Pro in 2021 for the Cowboys.

Last season, Diggs played in only the first two games before tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee at practice on Sept. 21.
