Dak Prescott worrying injury update adds to Dallas Cowboys problems

The Dallas Cowboys were given additional problems to solve after the extent with which Dak Prescott injured his hamstring was revealed after more tests were done with the star

The Dallas Cowboys were given another problem to solve after the news of the extent of Dak Prescott’s hamstring injury was revealed.

In the Cowboys’ 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, Prescott injured his hamstring, further compounding Dallas’ issues as it struggled in the first half of the 2024 NFL season, compiling a 3-5 record. At the time, Prescott sought out second opinions after it was reported that he suffered a partial avulsion of his hamstring.

Simply put, Prescott’s hamstring tendon partially tore off the bone, which is a serious issue. With that in mind, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters that Prescott is hoping to return at some point this season, even with an injury as serious as his.

“He’s still going through the process,” McCarthy said, per the Associated Press. “I visited with him again this morning on it. He’s still collecting information, different opinions, and that will continue through next week. But he’s here every day.

“I think that would be his goal [to return to the field after his hamstring injury]. I know he wants to keep playing, but I think it’s important to go through the process and gather all of the information. This is obviously a serious injury.”

Additionally, Jerry Jones explained to 105.3 The Fan that Prescott is more than likely placed on injured reserve because of the injury. Prescott would miss at least four games as he attempts to rehab his hamstring though if he were to undergo surgery, his season certainly would be over.

Jones also told reporters that he was “concerned” about the injury when he first saw it happen. “It concerned me when I saw the play or I saw him have a reaction to any weakness that he might have had there in his ham,” he said. “We just have to take a look at that.”

NFL Network’s Jane Slater provided more context to the injury, especially with the tendon partially torn from the bone. She believes it will take more than four weeks to recover from the injury, by which point the Cowboys could be out of playoff contention.

Still, Jones had a message for fans as the Cowboys struggled mightily this season, seemingly with no end in sight. Speaking to reporters after the loss, the 82-year-old reiterated his confidence in the team as Dallas weathers an injury storm.
