Bills Could Move on $84 Million Pro Bowl Cornerback

The Buffalo Bills could add Jaire Alexander if he is released by the Green Bay Packers.

One of the biggest loses the Buffalo Bills suffered this offseason was the loss of veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas, who became a free agent in March. Thus far, the only cornerback the Bills have added in response is Dane Jackson, who doesn’t project to be a starter.

In 2024 as a member of the Carolina Panthers, Jackson surrendered a 123.6 passer rating and a 75.9 percent completion rate.

Douglas still remains on the open market, but with limited cap space in Buffalo, a reunion still appears unlikely.

With the Bills still in the market for a cornerback to start opposite of Christian Benford, Last Word on Sports’ Anthony Palacios thinks Buffalo could be a prime destination for Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander if Alexander is released.

“The Buffalo Bills locked up cornerback Christain Benford to a well-deserved four-year, $76 million contract, but they must still find another starting-caliber option at the position,” Palacios wrote. “Armed with just $4.45 million in cap space, the Bills could sign Jaire Alexander to an incentive-laden prove-it deal after the Packers part ways with him. While the injury concerns are legitimate, Buffalo must shoot for the moon and sign a player with All-Pro potential to finally emerge victorious in the AFC playoffs.”

Alexander has dealt with injuries in three of his last four seasons. Coming into the offseason, Alexander was considered a cut candidate. While rumors suggest that the Packers are trying to trade Alexander, it is proving difficult due to his injury history and $84 million contract.

The Bills wouldn’t be able to trade for Alexander, as just $4.4 million of cap space remains in Buffalo. If Alexander were released, the Bills would certainly be in play.

Packers’ general manager Brian Gutekunst said of Jaire Alexander “We have some time here to kind of figure that out and see what’s best for him and for the organization.”

On Alexander potentially remaining a Packer, Gutekunst said“It could be a possibility. Absolutely.” Gutenkunst is hopeful to have a resolution for Alexander prior to the NFL Draft.

Alexander was selected to Pro Bowls in his last two healthy seasons, 2020 and 2022.
