Being a professional player is most people’s dream job, but just a handful of people actually make it to the NBA.
Needless to say, making the league doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to be financially set for life, and we’ve seen several players go bankrupt after their playing days are over.
That’s why all athletes must be smart with their finances, not only when it comes to their living expenses but also about where they put their money and how they look to maximize it.
Recently, Anthony Davis revealed that most NBA players may not even know that they can decide whether to get their entire salary within a six-month or a 12-month span.
Talking on the Join The Lobby podcast, the Los Angeles Lakers star revealed that players get paid once a month just like everybody else, with the difference that they can actually decide whether to get their salary in six or twelve months.

He added that most young players decide to get the money every month because they might not be that financially stable, whereas veterans are cool with having it all in six months.
Professional athletes make way more money than the average human being, and some of them have a tendency to spend more than they make, which is a recipe for disaster.
As for the players not knowing that they can actually decide how to get paid, their agents should make a bigger effort to teach young players entering the league this kind of stuff.
