The grass isn’t always greener on the other side when you change teams.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been the class of the NFL for years and their dominant run in the AFC doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon.
With Patrick Mahomes in the fold for years to come, the Chiefs have their cornerstone in place and will continue to build around him. One of the key members of the offensive attack in front of Mahomes was Joe Thuney. As Chiefs fans know, he was traded to the Chicago Bears prior to the 2025 NFL Draft and has since signed an extension to remain in the Windy City through the 2027 season.
Wednesday evening, Thuney met with the media in Chicago to discuss the new deal he signed with the Bears, and it seems like the offensive lineman is forgetting just how special his run in Kansas City was.

“It seems like everyone’s pulling in the same direction,” Thuney said. “Everybody’s really determined to keep working and improving. It’s what I’m used to and it felt right. Chicago is a city, a franchise with so much history. Couldn’t be happier. Really, really excited to be here.”
The Bears haven’t made the postseason since 2020, let alone sniffed a Super Bowl appearance. It makes sense that Thuney is saying the right things after signing a new deal with Chicago, and he has done his best to take in his new surroundings and get to know his teammates. However, he cannot say with a clear conscience that being with the Bears is even comparable to what he accomplished as a Chief.
Kansas City fans will continue to pull for Thuney thanks to everything he did to help the franchise win multiple Super Bowls. Those cheers will continue for as long as the lineman is in the NFL, even if he thinks Chicago is a special place, as long as he isn’t trying to stop the Chiefs’ defense from getting to the quarterback.
