The Dallas Cowboys currently are 5-7 on the season and have won two straight games.
Despite some back-breaking injuries, the Cowboys technically still are alive and clearly aren’t just throwing in the towel. Dallas could use an upgrade in the secondary and reportedly worked out four defensive backs on Thursday including former Miami Dolphins four-time Pro Bowler Xavien Howard, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.
“The Cowboys tried out 4 DBs, including former Dolphin Xavien Howard,” Yates said. “The other three: Troy Pride, Joshuah Bledsoe, (and) Dee Delaney.”
When Howard has been on the field, he has been great. He is an eight-year National Football League veteran with four Pro Bowl nods under his belt along with two All-Pro nods. Last season, he had one interception, 12 passes defended, and 45 total tackles while allowing just one touchdown in coverage.
He led the National Football League with 10 touchdowns and 20 passes defended in 2020 while finishing third in the Defensive Player of the Year Award voting. Howard was one of the top cornerbacks at one point and even landed a $90 million deal with Miami.
His issue this year hasn’t been on the field, though. He hasn’t seen any action this season as he has been in some controversy. A lawsuit was filed alleging that Howard sent explicit photos of a teenager’s mother to the child after the mother decided against getting an abortion. He also was accused of recording explicit activity with a woman without consent among other things.
It’s unclear what the next steps are but he did workout with the Cowboys at least on Thursday.
