Tom Brady, Julian Edelman Admit to Secret Phone Call

In addition to his high-profile NFL broadcasting gig with Fox, Tom Brady has upped his social media game in recent months, documenting more of his day-to-day life on his new YouTube channel.

In the latest behind-the-scenes video released on Thursday, September 12, Brady and former teammate Julian Edelman broke down film of the 47-year-old’s NFL highlights. 

During the eight-minute video, the topic of Brady and All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski playing together for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was brought up.

When a producer behind the camera asked Edelman if it ever crossed his mind to join the former New England Patriots super duo in Tampa, the retired receiver revealed that a secret phone call that took place in March 2020.

“He called me,” Edelman admitted. “Yeah you’re like, ‘Hey babe, wanna come down? I’ll get you here.'”



Brady then confirmed, “He turned me down. He rejected me.”

During a November 2021 Monday Night Football “Manningcast,” Edelman did acknowledge that Brady “hit me up the first day he signed there,” but the nature of the communication had not been known.

Brady went on to play three seasons in Tampa from 2020 to 2022, before officially retiring from the NFL in February 2023 after winning a record seven Super Bowl titles. 

He went 32-18 with the Buccaneers (5-2 in the postseason) while throwing for 14,643 passing yards, 108 touchdowns and 33 interceptions.

Edelman, on the other hand, officially hung up his cleats on April 12, 2021 with an emotional social media video captioned “Foxboro Forever.” The now 38-year-old spent his entire 12-year pro career with the Patriots, winning three Super Bowls in the process.
