In the wake of Team USA men’s basketball winning a fifth straight Olympic gold medal, a lot of the credit has gone to its trio of aging superstars: Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and MVP LeBron James.
James had a triple-double in the semifinal round to help rescue the squad after it fell behind by as many as 17 points to Serbia. He then had 14 points, 10 assists and six rebounds on Saturday to help it outlast France to clinch the gold.
But this iteration of Team USA had stars everywhere, including deep on its bench. Los Angeles Lakers superstar big man played a key role off the bench, and Andre Iguodala, who won a gold medal with Team USA in 2012, called Davis, along with the Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker, an unsung hero for the United States.

Davis had eight points, nine rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals in 20 minutes versus France on Saturday. Throughout the Olympics, he selflessly embraced a role in which he almost disregarded his own offense and focused primarily on defense and rebounding.
As a result, he now owns two Olympic gold medals, and he could very well earn a third one in the 2028 Summer Games, which will be held in Los Angeles.
