49ers $71 million superstar surprisingly mentioned as trade option

Is there a trade coming involving the San Francisco 49ers in the near future?

The 49ers currently don’t have the record that they expected to have at this point, although they currently have the top spot in the NFC West. San Francisco is 3-3 on the season after a tough start to the campaign.

San Francisco has looked better lately as it has started to get healthier, but could a change be on the way?

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini put together a list of possible “trade deadline names to watch” and surprisingly mentioned 49ers superstar Deebo Samuel as a trade candidate.

“Trade deadline names to watch,” Russini said. “The trade deadline is 17 days away; many around the league are keeping an eye on these names: (Carolina Panthers) (quarterback) Bryce Young and (wide receivers) Diontae Johnson, Jonathan Mingo and Adam Thielen, 49ers (wide receiver) Deebo Samuel, (Chicago Bears) (running back) Khalil Herbert and (defensive end) Dom Robinson, (Tennessee Titans) (wide receivers) Treylon Burks and DeAndre Hopkins, (Cleveland Browns) (defensive end) Za’Darius Smith.”

Samuel has been mentioned in trade speculation before, but he didn’t get moved. He has one more year on a three-year, $71.5 million deal. If the 49ers don’t see Samuel in the team’s long-term future, it could make sense to move him. But a trade also would significantly deplete the team’s offense.
