The Cowboys released Elliott in March 2023 after eight seasons with the franchise. He played last season with the New England Patriots, rushing for 642 yards in 17 games.

Entering the draft, the Cowboys are widely expected to select a running back. Dallas let last year’s starter Tony Pollard walk to the Tennessee Titans in free agency.

Currently at running back, the Cowboys have Rico Dowdle, who re-signed with the team this offseason, fellow free agent signee Royce Freeman and Deuce Vaughn.

Elliott was a three-time Pro Bowler with the Cowboys. He rushed for 8,262 yards and 68 touchdowns during his time with Dallas. However, he finished the 2022 season, his last in Dallas, with a then-career low 876 rushing yards and no 100-yard rushing games.

More to come on this developing story.
