A pair of lions think it’s going to be an easy dinner when they spot an injured buffalo – but they don’t take into account that a huge herd of beasts is rushing in after them.
As the lions rushed to kill, the buffalo cried out in anguish – and its companions ran back to fight the lions, before they were forced to leave without supper.
The astonishing sight was captured on camera by ranger student Oliver Lane, at Umlani Bushcamp in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve in Hoedspruit, in South Africa’s Limpopo province. Oliver was directing the morning match with Ephraim watcher and guests from the motel when they witnessed the brutal skirmish, just 25 meters from their car.
