Ong Dam Sorot, a tattoo artist specializing in the traditional yantra style, recently appeared on a popular Thai show to answer about his controversial marital status. Sorot married not one woman, but eight. They all live under one roof and consider each other one big happy family.
In the show, Sorot introduces each of his wives and tells about their love story. Meanwhile, eight women all describe their husbands as the best, most caring man in the world and claim they get along very well.
The polygamous man met his eldest wife, Nong Sprite, at a friend’s wedding and quickly proposed to her. The second wife, Nong L, met Sorot at the market; and Nong Nan – third wife – met at the hospital. The fourth, fifth and sixth wives, Sorot met through social networks, including Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. The tattoo artist met his seventh wife, Nong Film, while visiting Phra Pathom Chedi temple with his mother. With Sorot’s eighth and now final wife, Nong Mai, he met her while on vacation in Pattaya with four other wives.
“He is probably the most caring and considerate man we have ever seen,” agreed the eight women. They also added that their husbands treated them so well that they had no reason to argue.
Sorot’s two wives are pregnant. He also had a son with his first wife, Nong Sprite. These women slept in four rooms, two people each. They waited in turn for the day to come when they could share a bed with their husbands and no one had a problem with the arrangement.
Talking about the first time she agreed to let Sorot marry a second wife, Nong Sprite said she loved him enough to approve, especially because her husband always bothered to ask her if he agreed. Nong Sprite said that as long as the husband brings his fiancée home so that she can meet him first, it will be fine.
Of the seven women who agreed to marry the tattooist upon learning he was married, most said they loved him madly and would accept any situation. Sorot is charming, caring, and proves to them that he can take care of them. While some said they had trouble explaining to their families that they were married to a polygamist, they did not give up on Sorot. In the end, their friends and relatives also had to accept.
In order to maintain a peaceful polygamous family, Sorot set specific rules for the women to “just follow”. The first wife has the highest position, while the remaining wives are “equally equal” to each other. The male tattooist said: “I will ask my wife if I want to break up or not 3 times. If the answer is yes, I’ll let them go with the man they want, as long as they’re honest. However, so far this has not happened.”
Sorot has a very popular YouTube account and social media site. He said people always thought he was rich and capable of taking care of his extended family. But Sorot insists this is not true. Every member of your family has their own responsibilities. His wives earn money by doing housework or selling products ranging from food to cosmetics to accessories.
To date, the show about Sorot and his eight wives has attracted more than 3 million views on YouTube alone, causing a great deal of controversy. Some people think that the tattooist is lucky because he has many beautiful young wives. Others joked that the Sorots had not only one roof, but eight.
