New England hosted Minor as one of their 30 pre-draft visits.

This year’s “Mr. Irrelevant” belongs to the New England Patriots.
New England traded pick No. 228 to the Chiefs in exchange for 251 and 257 — the final pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. With that pick, the Patriots selected Memphis cornerback Kobee King.
New England did work on Minor during the scouting process, and even hosted him as one of their 30 allotted pre-draft visits. Minor told reporters the Patriots were the only team he met with prior to the draft.
As far as the nickname? Minor doesn’t mind it at all.
“I love it. I’ve never been a highly recruited guy,” Minor said, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “
The Mr. Irrelevant moniker has taken on a life of its own over the years and become a bit of a show signifying the official end of the draft. But there have been a few success stories of players defying their nickname and making an impact as the last player drafted in their class.
Brock Purdy is the best example in recent memory. He was the 2022 “Mr. Irrelevant” and went on to start in a Super Bowl and establish himself as the 49ers’ franchise quarterback.
Minor hopes to have similar success, and he’ll have plenty to learn from New England’s defensive back room that includes Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis.
Minor is 5-foot-11 and 182 pounds, and ran a 4.56 40-yard dash. He’ll likely be competing with Marcus Jones and Alex Austin for reps in nickel and dime packages defensively. But Minor is comfortable wherever Vrabel and the Patriots decide to line him up.
“When I came into college, I was a safety, and then my defensive coordinator at Texas Tech asked if I ever played corner,” Minor said. “I’ve always played anywhere in the back end, so I’m familiar with a lot of the spots, and I know how to play each and every one of the spots. … I’m familiar with nickel too. Wherever you need me in the back end, I fill that spot.”
This isn’t the first time New England held the Mr. Irrelevant pick. The last time was 2005, when the Patriots selected Andy Stokes, who did wind up irrelevant, never playing an offensive snap in the NFL.
Other notable Mr. Irrelevant picks include Ryan Succop in 2009 and Tae Crowder in 2020. Find a full list of Mr. Irrelevant picks
