The Buffalo Bills and safety Damar Hamlin agreed to terms on a one-year, $2 million deal in free agency.
Hamlin, 26, tested the free agent market briefly as his rookie contract came to an end. The defender was a sixth-round pick of the Bills in 2021.
The deal has a $1.8M base salary and a signing bonus of $167,500, according to Over the Cap. And, his $1.1M cap hit in 2025 accounts for just .4% of the cap.
The re-signing is the second contract Hamlin has signed in the NFL. He played the final year of his rookie deal in 2024, and both sides thought a reunion made sense.
Hamlin, drafted out of Pittsburgh, has played a big role with the Bills over the past few years. He started 13 games at safety in 2022 and he started another 14 in 2024. That’s a combined 27 games started over the past three years while losing his life on the field in between.
Hamlin’s rebirth as an NFL player after fighting for his life has inspired millions, and he’s back in Buffalo on a contract that seems to be a win for both the franchise and Hamlin. For Hamlin, he didn’t want to go anywhere else, and for the Bills, they got a safety with starting experience for a $2 million deal.
In his career, Hamlin has recorded 184 combined tackles, two interceptions, and 1.5 sacks.
