Luka Doncic trade sparks memories of shocking Randy Moss deal that never happened

The NBA was shaken this week when a major trade went down that sent superstar guard Loca Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers. Huge trades like that don’t happen often, but Minnesota Vikings fans will remember some from the NFL’s history.

Wide receiver Randy Moss brought many fans to the Vikings. His explosive playmaking and difficulty to match up against made him an absolute steal at No. 21 overall in the 1998 NFL Draft and created numerous fond memories for fans.

Moss was no stranger to trades. The superstar wide receiver was dealt a few times in his career but one of the most interesting deals he was involved in didn’t end up being completed but would have shaken up the NFL.

Luka Doncic trade sparks Minnesota Vikings fans’ memories of shocking Randy Moss deal that never happened

Reminded by the surprising Luca Doncic transaction, Fox Sports released a list of the 10 most shocking trades ever. Randy Moss’s trade from the Oakland Raiders to the New England Patriots was ninth on the list but a detail added about another potential deal is eye-opening.

“After two unfulfilling seasons in Oakland, the Raiders and Moss were more than ready to part ways. The Packers were ready to pounce in hopes of pairing the future Hall of Famer with Brett Favre. Green Bay offered a young Aaron Rodgers, who’d attempted all of 31 passes after two seasons in the league.”

Pairing Randy Moss with Brett Favre in Green Bay would have been terrifying. Having one of the most prolific passers of all time with a dynamic weapon would have sent shivers down the backs of Vikings fans.

It is interesting that the Green Bay was willing to move on from Aaron Rodgers to get the deal done. At that point, Rodgers hadn’t become the future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback that he is known as now, but still had enough potential for the Packers to take him at No. 24 overall in the 2005 NFL Draft despite not having a need at the position.

This trade would have made the NFC North look completely different and changed the direction of the Packers’ franchise. Not only that but fans of the Minnesota Vikings would need to see Randy Moss possibly win a Super Bowl in a Green Bay jersey. And that would have hurt badly.
