Just last weekend Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear he wasn’t moving on from head coach Mike McCarthy.
“I’m good with Mike. I know how hard he works, I like his football mind, I know how good he works,” Jones said, via NFL.com. “He’s got, in my mind, an outstanding coaching record. He’s really good with the players; they think highly of him. He’s got a lot of fire in his belly.”
He later suggested he has hope for the team – despite their mounting injuries.
“I have seen too many times when this thing gets to looking dark, I’ve seen a positive jump up there and go from there,” Jones added. “Personally, I’m a long way from being dismayed about our team, about this year.”

Fast forward to Sunday’s blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and Jones was faced with the same question. Does he truly still believe McCarthy is the right head coach for the team?
Apparently so.
“Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he has no interest in making a coaching change. He has fired coaches in-season before and he has regretted it every time,” Cowboys reporter Jon Machota said.
Dallas sits at 3-6 on the season following Sunday’s loss to the Eagles, which effectively removes the team from the playoff hunt, although the season was probably lost when quarterback Dak Prescott went down with a hamstring injury.
There’s really no point to firing McCarthy in the middle of a lost season. Dallas isn’t completing for the playoffs and will be starting a backup quarterback for the next few weeks.
Why add to the headache with a coaching change?
