Dallas Cowboys in trade talks for major wide receiver to aid offense

TheDallas Cowboys have been in the spotlight for many reasons this season, but their ongoing search for a solid wide receiver has captured the most attention. Heading into the 2024 offseason, it was clear that wide receiver depth was a pressing issue. While the team made some efforts to fill the gap, it’s evident that the Cowboys still have room to improve their passing game.

As the NFL trade deadline looms, the urgency to bolster their wide receiver corps is only growing. The Cowboys, who’ve fought through an inconsistent start, find themselves looking for that extra spark to elevate their offense. With injuries stacking up and the playoff race heating up, they could be eyeing a key move.



One name that has surfaced in recent discussions is Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. With the Bengals sitting at 1-4 and their playoff hopes dimming, there is growing speculation that Higgins might be on the trade block. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox recently suggested that the Cowboys could emerge as a possible landing spot for the dynamic receiver if Cincinnati decides to sell.

Knox noted, “Dallas may have salvaged its season with a much-needed win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, but they still need a solid complement to CeeDee Lamb. Brandin Cooks being placed on injured reserve after a knee procedure leaves the team vulnerable.” The timing is perfect for a potential trade, with Dallas in desperate need of a proven weapon to pair with Lamb.

The situation in Cincinnati provides a window of opportunity. Joe Burrow and the Bengals have struggled mightily, and with Higgins in the final year of his contract, there’s a strong possibility the team could move on from him before the November 5 trade deadline. A deal with Dallas could make sense for both sides, giving the Bengals draft capital and the Cowboys the firepower they need.

Dallas’ current receiving corps is thin, especially with Cooks out. Jalen Tolbert, while talented, remains unproven and is currently slotted as the No. 2 receiver behind Lamb. Adding Higgins to the mix would immediately address this issue, pushing Tolbert to a more comfortable No. 3 role and giving Dallas one of the league’s most dangerous duos at wide receiver.

Higgins, who missed the start of the season due to injury, has been ramping up his performance in recent weeks. His Week 5 game was his best of the year, signaling that he is hitting his stride just in time for a potential midseason shakeup.



Of course, there is a risk in trading for Higgins. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, there’s a chance he could only be a rental player for Dallas. However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has never shied away from making bold moves, and if he’s truly committed to making a deep playoff run this year, an aggressive pursuit of Higgins could be in the cards.

The next few weeks will determine whether the Cowboys are willing to pull the trigger on a move that could transform their offense. With Higgins’ future in Cincinnati uncertain and Dallas searching for answers, the possibility of a blockbuster trade looms large.
