With the 2024 NFL season just a month away, Julian Edelman is still struggling to understand veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers‘ reason for missing the mandatory minicamp. This absence occurred just before the New York Jets team’s training camp.

It’s the tale of June when the New York Jets again came under the limelight because of their quarterback who skipped the mandatory minicamp for a trip to Egypt– one of his bucket list destinations. Even though his absence was labeled as ‘unexcused’ by head coach Robert Saleh, the veteran quarterback believed his presence at the minicamp was not necessary.

In response to all the criticism Rodgers faced for missing the minicamp, he asserted that it hasn’t been the same as it used to be. He also said that he is 100% ready for the coming season with the Jets having six primetime out of the first eleven, and that’s why he decided to take a break and refresh his mind.

But the three-time Super Bowl champion claimed Rodgers’ excuse wasn’t good enough and missing the minicamp was not a good look for him. Using his former teammate Tom Brady as an example of how he never missed a minicamp, Edelman claimed that minicamp is very important, especially for the starting quarterback.

I’m still not a fan of missing a minicamp. I didn’t like that. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Aaron Rodgers and his ability to play the game. But we all make a lot of good money when we’re playing football. If he can’t reschedule something four days later, I don’t understand the logic behind that.

Julian Edelman said during his recent appearance on The Herd

The legendary wide receiver argued since Rodgers hasn’t played any good snaps in the last two years, these off-field endeavors putting him under scrutiny will only make things worse for him in the coming season.

All this is doing is creating more distractions. That city? New York? They love that. It’s just making the situation more difficult if things go bad.

Julian Edelman added

Edelman put forward an interesting point regarding the ten-time Pro Bowler’s absence from the most important part of the offseason program because with New York having six Primetime games and Rodgers recovering from a serious ACL injury, all eyes are on them.
