Gabriela Peralta (Argentina) and Victor Hugo Peralta (Uruguay) have held the Guinness World Record for most body modifications (married couple) since July 7, 2014 — when their total was verified at 84 on the sets of Show dei Record in Milan, Italy. However, the tattoo-loving pair has since made several more alterations to take the body modifications count to nearly 100.

Together, the couple has on them 50 piercings, 14 body implants, eight microdermals, five dental implants, four ear expanders, two ear bolts and forked tongue, according to Guinness World Records. Gabriela and Victor, who first met 24 years ago at a motorcycle event, fell in love at first sight over their shared interest in body modifications.

For the couple, body modifications are symbolic of artistic expression, self love and freedom – a state of mind that’s hardly undermined by external judgement.”Enjoy life, enjoy the art. Tattoos don’t make you a good or bad person — it’s just art,” Victor told Guinness. “There will be those who appreciate it and others who don’t.”

The Latin American duo is not only confident in their own skin but has earned international recognition for their body art. “For me, being a Guinness World Records holder is a prize that life gives me for the love of body art, and I am very grateful because this record helped me achieve one of my big dreams: traveling to 20 countries, getting to know different cultures, and making new friendships around the world,” said Victor.

For all their obsession with tattoos and body modifications, the couple admitted some can also be painful. While for Victor, it was tongue pigmentation — which left him struggling to breathe for several hours — Gabriela said her three scarifications were more painful than any other body modifications.
